Background Restaurant Terrassen

Restaurant Terrassen and the Tivoli Theatre have been carefully renovated with respect for the listed, original architecture by architect S.F. Kühnel.

The windows with the original glassware blown by mouth, the crystal chandeliers, the mirrored walls, the woodcarving and the art pieces create an elegant, light and impressive atmosphere.

Several of the original window glasses have love inscriptions from the past.

Ever since the old beautiful wooden pavilion opened as a restaurant on 31th of July 1904 it has been a popular place for a special outing.

At that time Tivoli Friheden was located in the country side and families went there for Sunday outings in horse carriages from Aarhus.

The Restaurant served lunch menus at DKK 0.75 and a bottle of aquavit at DKK 0.10. It was also possible to buy hot water for the coffee and hire tableware for their own food.

In 1927 the restaurant was expanded by an extra hall for large parties. A year later the new hall was turned into a theatre and today you sense the atmosphere of a time long gone.
